Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS)
Its existence is to prevent and resolve employment disputes. In relation to claims submitted to the Employment Tribunal the role of ACAS is to enhance the possibility of a claim being resolved without the need for a claim to be heard by an Employment Tribunal. In effect, if a claim is heard at an Employment Tribunal, ACAS will have failed in its objective. Although ACAS officers are highly skilled negotiators, they are not legal advisers. As such we would recommend that you obtain independent legal advice from a solicitor before acting upon any advice given to you by an ACAS employee.
